Generally speaking, I’m much more of a run/workout in the morning girl, so it’s out of the way and I have lots of energy for the rest of the day. However, after work on Friday I was bit by the running bug! Kman was working late (like midnight late!) so I set out on a run through Liberty State Park to kickoff my weekend in a nice, sweaty way.
I try not to really take pictures when I run so I don’t have to stop, but I had to snap one since the Manhattan skyline looked so pretty! Jersey City, I won’t miss too much about you, but views of the city will be one.
5.5 miles was just enough to clear my head after a busy week of work!
I rounded out the night with a Netflix SVU marathon, a facemask, and snacking on wasa crackers, brie, and red pepper spread instead of eating a real dinner. Whoops!
Oh, and did I mention playing with the cats? Because isn’t that what everyone does on Friday nights? No? Hmmm. Anyways, here they are fighting over a brand new organic catnip banana toy. And if you’re curious as to just how much they REALLY like this toy, I direct you to this video.
Saturday morning my alarm went off at the ungodly hour of 5:45 AM. I signed up to participate in the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women’s Cancer. This is an issue that is incredibly close to my heart due to recently losing my mom to the stupid disease, and it was wonderful to participate in the event with Kman’s mom and sister, both of whom I absolutely adore.
I heated up a whole wheat pancake with maple syrup, almond butter, and chia seeds and set off into the city!
Here we are, ready to walk/run!
On the way home, I picked up a Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee to combat the impending sleepiness from my early wakeup. Um, notice anything different about the straw? IT IS BLACK. Like, for Men In Black 3, I guess. Great job, marketing team.
When I got home I was craving a fully-loaded omelette so voila! Jampacked with asparagus, spinach, bell peppers. It was the size of my face and I absolutely inhaled it.
The rest of my Saturday looked a little something like this. Lounge around on the couch watching Friday Night Lights, realize I should probably stop lounging around, drag my butt to the gym for a quickie legs/arms/ab workout, come back upstairs, lounge around some more on the couch watching Friday Night Lights.
Eventually, Kman made me shower (what a jerk!) and get ready for our friend Ken’s party. Off to Queens we went! The party was great…he’s somewhat of a drink connoisseur, so there were mint juleps and some sort of delicious (and deadly) punch. I rarely drink now, but had two cups of it that I nursed over the course of 4 hours.
Due to said drinks, and the fact that I really think my body just doesn’t process any alcohol particularly well anymore, my aspirations of an early, super productive Sunday were dashed. Early AM grocery shopping didn’t happen, and neither did a long run. Oh well, ya win some ya lose some!
You said it, Penny. I was super sleepy and there was no chance of my hopping out of bed early, according to plan.
I did drag Kman on a mile walk to Modell’s with me so I could pick up a couple new sports bras, so my fitbit got a little bit of action at least! In addition to some much-needed new sports bras, I also picked up a neon, highlighter yellow Under Armour tank to wear for the Brooklyn Half. I wish this picture did the color justice!
And since we didn’t get to the grocery store bright and early, we headed there around 8pm which was, and I assure you I am not exaggerating, the worst idea in the history of the world! Ok, maybe a SLIGHT exaggeration, but the store looked like what I imagine a post-apocalyptic grocery store looking like. Wilted, floppy produce, ransacked shelves…it was the work of savages! Never again. I am a crack of dawn grocery shopper only!
We managed to pick up a good amount of items that we needed, or at least enough to get us through moving day.
After a soul-sucking shopping trip, I could only muster up a half-assed dinner. Sausage, onion, and pepper sandwiches with a side of baked sweet potato chips!
The taters in the pre-baked state. I am in love with the mandolin slicer that I won from a giveaway Kaitlyn did! It’s an OXO, and so far I haven’t maimed any of my fingers, so I think that’s a pretty good sign.
This week will be a little nutso! We are knee deep in packing up the apartment and getting everything ready to move (with the help of Kman’s parents) on Saturday. Then the movers will be bringing all the heavy stuff next Tuesday morning.
Oh, and did I mention I’ll be attending FitBlogNYC, an event put on by Fitness Magazine, on Wednesday?! I’m so excited to meet lots of other awesome bloggers and attend all of the scheduled panels! Expect a full recap on Thursday.
Question: What’s your favorite time for food shopping? It’s an art, making sure produce is fresh, store is empty, etc! Also, can you make/buy me a time machine so it’s the weekend already and we’re all moved in? Thanks.
