Weekend Warriors
Is anyone else extremely happy about the sudden onslaught of fall weather?! 49 degrees when I headed out for my run this morning! Absolute perfection.
Let’s just get something, admittedly a very lame something, out in the open right now. My bedtimes for Saturday and Sunday, respectively: 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Now that that’s out of the way, onwards and upwards to details!
Saturday morning Kman and I got up nice and early because he was headed to Central Park for a 1/2 marathon! He and his sister, Katie, were running it, while I was there for moral support (remember how running and I had a rocky relationship but now we’re in love again?).
There’s Katie in the pink shirt (I get flustered trying to take race photos and always miss people!) in the back.
Kman, mid-high five to me.
They both kicked major booty: Kman = 1:39:53, Katie = 2:08:44! And they’re both doing the NYRR 9+1 for guaranteed entry into the 2012 NYC marathon. So awesome. We also happened to see this man/sheep hanging onto a pole.
Can anyone say photo op?!
After that, we made our way back to Jersey City to hang out for a bit before meeting up with Jess and Sam, who was in town for the weekend.
Naturally, anytime we want to show people a little taste of JC, we bring them to Zeppelin Hall Biergarten! Giant beers and giant pretzels were just what the doctor ordered for a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Well, I doubt that a doctor would prescribe liters of beer, but let’s not split hairs here.
After said beer, the four of us made our way back to our apartment to hang out. We made a pitstop at the corner candy store…
Jess and Sam headed back into the city after a little while since we all started to get wicked sleepy. Kman and I hit the hay at the ripe old hour of 8:30PM. Two words. Party. Animals.
We woke up Sunday morning rested, refreshed, and ready to tackle the 6 mile Walk to Cure Diabetes by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Center. Our team consisted of Kman, me, Jess (the organizer!), Sam, Jess’s sister, and roommate. It was a gorgeous, brisk walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Just add a couple thousand really slow walkers that we were blowing past left and right to the bridge below.
The walk was followed up with some major lounging around the apartment, complete with Thai food for dinner!
