Pastry-esque Hair and Grocery Leurve
It’s so fruitin’ tootin’ hot in the city today that I’m seriously missing the San Francisco un-summer. I say un-summer because you think, “Oh! California, summer, hot and sunny!” Nope. Not true. There’s a saying, “The coldest winter I ever felt was a San Francisco summer.” Now, coming from a native New Englander, I beg to differ…but it still got down to the 40s a few times last summer.
As a result of the nutso humidity, my hair has pretty much been looking like this 90% of the time. (Old picture, but I can assure you that’s pretty much how it always looks). Methinks it’s time for a cut.
No need to say anything, I know it’s super attractive…not.
I can’t wait for today to zoom by so I can hit up Trader Joe’s! Since moving, my only gripe with Jersey City has been that there isn’t a TJ’s within walking distance. Living in Boston and San Francisco and having one down the street in both cities turned me into a TJ’s brat. I’ve been making bi-weekly pilgrimages to the NYC Union Square one, and all I can say about that location is YIKES. Lines up the wazoo and people throwing elbows for produce. Not fun!
Come to find out, there is one located 1 mile from my office in Brooklyn! JACKPOT! I already have my go-to Trader Joe’s shopping list. Is it lame that I’m this excited about grocery shopping? Maybe. Probably. Definitely. But oh well
Question: What’s your favorite Trader Joe’s item? I’m always looking for yummy new recommendations so I can branch out from the usual suspects.

BETTER N BUTTER! GET IT- love it
Their dark chocolate bars are yummy! They have several to choose from. I like the one with raisins and pecans.
Also get pot-stickers in frozen section……great for a quickie dinner with a side salad. I have many more FAVS but I’ll refrain!
Roasted seaweed snack. Or chocolate-covered pretzels. I can’t decide.
omggg their choc covered pretzels are to die for. LOVE EM!

My answer:
I always debate whether the produce is a good deal, because I hate that it’s priced per piece instead of per pound – makes it hard to compare. However, today I actually did the math on the bananas (19 cents each), and found that with the ones I picked, they were 50 cents a pound. Much better than 99 cents at my grocery store!
Almond/soy/etc milk – though I’ve seen similar prices at Whole Foods when it’s on sale
Salsa – it’s around $2-3 a jar, but the quality is gourmet. Compare to $4 for some nasty Old El Paso brand at a regular grocery.
Frozen veggies, especially the massive bags of green beans and the asparagus spears
Sushi platters – though the quality isn’t awesome
Nuts are an awesome deal, as others have noted
