My Perfect Day
After what might have been a nauseatingly sappy post for some of you (sorry! haha), Kman and I went on to have pretty much the best day in the history of the world. That might be a stretch, but in my eyes it was nothing short of fantastic.
We started out with a pretty early wake up call, got ready for the day, and set out for stop one: Bagel Market.I got a whole wheat everything bagel (obviously) with jalapeno asiago cream cheese.
Next up: wandering over to the Greenmarket at Grand Army Plaza to load up on food for the week!
In no particular order…
- Mutsu apples
- Swordfish
- Steamers
- Kale
- 2 bags of spinach
- romaine
- carrots
- fingerling potatoes
- asparagus
- sugar snap peas. or snow peas, I always get them mixed up!
After unpacking all our loot and putting it away, it was juice time! We drank our green juice with a well-balanced breakfast consisting of our bagels, mimosas, and a bowl of cherries.
Next on the agenda: picnic + frisbee in the park! It was an absolutely gorgeous day, so we took full advantage of Prospect Park.
I swear, I’m getting really good at frisbee! Not great, but MUCH better than I used to be. We played for a while and munched on some snacks that I brought…
The perfect, sunny day soon turned a bit hazy and overcast, so we skedaddled home to get ready for our next activity on anniversary day: a couple’s massage! Neither Kman nor I had ever gotten a professional massage, so we were both super psyched for the experience. We set out for Sage Spa on 5th Ave. in Park Slope for an hour of pure relaxation.
One word: incredible. I’m horrible about carrying heavy tote bags, having a bad computer set up, sleeping on my stomach, etc…so my neck and shoulders are always wicked tight. The hour totally flew by for both of us and we left relaxed, restored, and rejuvenated!
Upon leaving, the sky decided to open up and completely pour on our walk home, so we did what anyone else would do in the same situation…sought refuge in an ice cream shop!
Yay for backwards meals! Since we started off with dessert, it was time to cook some actual food for dinner when we got home. I started to cook up the steamers that we got from the fish stand at the market earlier and, having never had them before, Kman was more than a little skeptical.
I rinsed them off in a bowl of salt water for about an hour beforehand, and started prepping the base ingredients to steam those little clammies!
- 1 bottle of dark beer (I used a random IPA we had in the fridge)
- 1/2 lemon sliced up
- 2 cloves garlic, diced
- salt and pepper to taste
Bring all ingredients to a slow boil, drop steamers in, and cover. Cook on low-medium for 10 minutes, or until all of the clams are open. If any do not open, throw them away!
The best part is dunking the steamers and chunks of bread in the broth! You can also melt a little dish of butter and dunk them in that instead, but the beer made this broth particularly flavorful and delicious.
The result?! He really liked them! Of course, that was after getting over the initial, “Eww these look like giant boogers” reaction. Or at least he told me he liked them…Kman, were you lying?!
And to top off an already perfect day?! We now have a wall-mounted television.
One step closer to having a fully decorated and organized apartment! A process that is taking a bit longer than I expected, but ya know the saying…
Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Question: What would YOUR perfect day consist of?! The only thing that could have made Saturday even more perfect would have been a nice run first thing in the morning, but my foot was still really sore.
