Moving Weekend + Crawling for Cupcakes
If you just want to scroll through the pictures of this post, I promise I won’t be offended.
I woke up this morning equal parts psyched about our new apartment and physically/mentally drained. From when we got home from work Friday night to last night at 11pm we were GO GO GO GO GO GO!
And we’re not out of the clear yet. After work tonight we blocked off a Zipcar for 4 hours for one last trip back to the Jersey City apartment to load some more stuff up (read: things I packed haphazardly that the moving company probably won’t transport in its current state) and drive it over to Brooklyn. Then we have movers coming for all the heavy stuff tomorrow at 7:30 AM.
Thankfully, I’m taking the day off from work tomorrow.
Rewind time!
Saturday
Saturday morning, Kman’s parents came down at 8 to offer up their moving services.
But prior to their arrival, we had to fuel with some Dunkin’ Donuts coffee…and dumpster dive for a bunch of cardboard boxes that the manager had just dropped in there!
We loaded the car with a bunch of random crap, the TV, and the kitties, and drove to the new apartment.
After unloading and relaxing from all the heavy lifting, we set out to Scottadito for a post-move brunch! Granted, it’s the only place I’ve been to for brunch in Park Slope so far, but I think it might be my favorite.
Um, hello bottomless mimosas? What more could you want!?
I got poached salmon on a bed of green beans and it totally hit the spot.
Afterwards, we escorted his parents around the neighborhood en route to the Greenmarket at Grand Army Plaza! Apparently there was some Nesquick promo street team handing out free chocolate milk so we did what anyone else would do in that situation…took pictures with the bunny! And grabbed some milk freebies, of course.
Then it was Greenmarket time! I made a beeline for the wheatgrass since I’ve been dying to juice it lately. And we also picked up some farm fresh eggs.
After walking around for a little longer and enjoying the perfect weather, his parents hit the road back up to Westchester, and Kman and I tried to grab a quick nap. Well, he napped and I continued to organize the apartment like a crazy lady. It’s so funny, just in a few hours of being in the new apartment, Penny is like a different cat…so snuggly now! Both of the kitties LOVE seeing and hearing all of the birds outside.
A little while later we set out to meet up with Katy and Gavin for a “cupcake crawl!” They were on a mission to taste test cupcakes from a few different bakeries in Brooklyn in order to pick dessert for their upcoming wedding, and we were more than willing to tag along.
We hit up: Cake Man Raven…
Betty Bakery…
and One Girl Cookies.
The result? Betty Bakery by a landslide! We ranked them on some super-official criteria: moistness, frosting, and flavor.
After sitting and chatting for a while (and trying to not slip into sugar-induced food comas), we parted ways. Kman and I had to head back to Jersey City and load up a few more suitcases of stuff to bring back with us on the subway. When we got back to Brooklyn we had zero energy to cook dinner, and zero pots and pans to cook with, so we ordered burritos and watched The Woman In Black, which was terrifying. Ugh, I am such a wimp when it comes to scary movies!
Sunday
I had lofty ambitions of a nice run through Prospect Park, but that didn’t happen. By the time we had mopped the floors and put some stuff away, it would have been cutting it too close to when we had to leave for a BBQ at the Bauer house. I’m sort of annoyed with myself that I didn’t run, but as long as I get a nice run in tomorrow and Wednesday, then I’ll feel good for Brooklyn Half.
So yes, lots of mopping and cleaning Sunday morning! I also popped down the block to grab coffee and fresh bagels for homemade breakfast sandwiches. We totally ate them on the floor due to our lack of furniture until the movers bring it tomorrow!
And naturally, one of the first things I made sure to pack for the new place was the juicer!
2 granny smith apples, carrots, and wheatgrass juice.
Next step: subway up to Harlem to Katy + Gavin’s apartment, which was the designated pick-up location for a ride up to Westchester for the Bauer-B-Q!
Lots of yummy barbeque, some beers, and quality time with Kman’s family.
A lovely way to end a crazy weekend! We ended up getting home around 11 and face planting right into bed.
And by bed I mean air mattress, which is what we’re sleeping on until tomorrow night!
Now I need coffee. And a lot of it. Preferably an IV drip.

Congrats! Welcome to the neighborhood!
I’m exhausted just reading all u did in 2 days!
How much wheat grass do u use for one serving in your juicer? Grazie!
Congratulations your new neighborhood looks to die for! Good for you getting right out and exploring it! I’ve lived in my town for 5 years I still haven’t visited all the shops. I like the Egg sign. I may steal it to show some friends of mine who have chickens.
Looks like you’re having a great time. I love the cakes and salmon, i gotta buy some cake later tonight. Congrats to your new neighborhood. Have a great stay.
LOVE farmer’s markets! Looks like you got some great find – I am sure there are more where that comes from!
thanks! we’ll have to hang soon
I’m totally hitting it up every Saturday. Do you go to the Ferry Building farmers market a lot?! I miss that so much!!
Hmm the amount I used didn’t yield nearly enough for a wheatgrass shot…it was a 4 inch x 4 inch square container. I’m going to try growing some though!
