Housewarming Fiesta and Roller Coaster of Death
I’m all discombobulated today! It feels like Monday, since Kman and I took the day off yesterday to hit up Coney Island. I had never been there, and I was dying to make a day trip…so the Monday after a hectic weekend seemed like the perfect time to unwind on the beach
My parental units, as I lovingly call them, came to visit Saturday afternoon! Kman’s mum, dad, grandmother, sister (Katy), and soon-to-be-brother-in-law (Gavin, holy hypenation) also came down for a fam-filled day. It was the first time our parents met, and I think they absolutely hit it off
Everyone hung out, chatted, ate, and drank for a little while, then my parents packed up to head back to MA. Thanks, Mum and Dad, for making the the trip to NJ! And also, thanks for the key-lime pie, which we’ve been devouring
Our friends started trickling in around 6, and thanks to some Gavin Party Punch, everyone was starting to feel pretty GOOOOOOD! Lots of beirut (or as some of you folios apparently call it, beer pong!), food, photos, deadly margaritas, and good friends
In addition to bringing the Party Punch, G-unit also set up a photobooth for people to (drunkenly) take fun pictures! He’s such a freaking awesome photographer, so we were pretty honored that he did this. THANKS GAVIN!
And thanks everyone for coming!
Sunday was spent recuperating, chowing down at Brownstone Diner, napping, and watching Heroes. I know we’re knee-deep in a mega Dr. Who marathon, but I wanted something to watch if Kman wasn’t home. How did I miss Heroes when it was on TV?! So good. But I digress…
Enter, Monday! Our day off
Breakfast was obviously some key-lime pie that my p-units brought. That’s my coffee, BTW. Regular Coke = barfville.com/icky
Then it was off to Coney Island!
I still feel a little nauseous from all the food yesterday. We lounged around on the beach and in the water for a while before giving in to our hunger pangs. First stop: Nathan’s Original Hot Dog place. Hot dog for me, corn dog for him, cheesy fries and gigundo lemonades for both!
That was followed by some arcade action, more beach time, and a ride on the Cyclone!
I looooove roller-coasters, and I can appreciate the history surrounding this one, but dayyyy-um I was sore after one ride. Granted, we sat in the back row (because the front one was taken!), so we got jostled around more than we would have otherwise. I’m always the person yelling “WHEEEEEEE!!!!” and throwing my hands up, but I was clinging for dear life and grunting “Ughhh OUCH” the whole time haha.
Oh, and we obviously had to cap off the day with some funnel cake! I think it’s an unwritten rule that you have to eat fried dough if you ride a rollercoaster.
All in all, an excellent three day weekend!
After work tonight I’m headed into the city for a Colby College happy hour! So many Colby alums live in NYC so it will be nice to get together and see everyone. Bonus? Jess will be there!
