Guess Who’s Back!

Hola everyone! I hope everyone has been staying cool during this insane-in-the-membrane heat wave that’s been going on lately. Oy vey, I’ve been schvitzing like there’s no tomorrow!

Any motivation that I may have had to go for a run has effectively been squashed by this heat. If you need me, I’ll be in the air conditioned gym lifting weights, thankyouverymuch. I know, I know, I’ve been promising a round-up of the new lifting program I’ve been doing the past month and I swear, I’ll get around to it soon!

But two words: IT. ROCKS. Seriously. I’ve seen more of a change in my body during the past month of lifting heavy than I have in the past 6 months of straight healthy eating and running.

I’m torn right now between trying to do a recap of the past month and starting with a clean slate, but neither seems like the best option…so how bout this. A short play by play, then we call it even and I’ll be better about posting. And by better I mean not let a month go by without posting, because heck, I miss it!

So where we last left off, I quit my job and started my new (amazing!) gig at Chobani.

  • We threw a bachelorette party for Katy
  • Started an incredibly challenging weight-lifting program
  • Slacked off on juicing because work was busy and I never went grocery shopping
  • Our friends, Ashley and Jeremy, threw a fun luau party
  • Katy + Gavin got married!
  • One of my absolute best friends, Lee, visited from Tel Aviv and met Kman for the first time!
  • Went to Orlando/Disney World for work (for the first time)
  • and probably a lot more but I’m just blanking….

That’s one of the reasons I love blogging. It’s so easy and fun to read back and be able to fully relive different moments. But when I don’t blog for a month, everything just seems like a big fuzzy blur!

This morning, after working for a bit when I first woke up, I decided it was high time to finally get back into the grocery shopping groove. If you’ve been reading for a while, you’ll know that I adored early AM grocery shopping when we lived in Jersey City. I had a list, a routine, and the stores (ShopRite and BJ’s) all to myself. Since moving, I’ve struggled with getting into the same habit because I haven’t found the right combo of stores.

I thought Costco would be part of the solution, so we headed there today! At BJ’s, I loved buying kale, spinach, carrots, bell peppers, and celery in bulk for juicing. Well, Costco in Brooklyn was hands down, no exaggeration, if-I’m-lyin’-I’m-dyin’…HORRENDOUS. Overcrowded (really, that word doesn’t even do it justice), no signage, crappy produce, and I couldn’t find half of the items I went to buy. An employee pointed us to the meat section when we asked him where to find the bags of quinoa. Sigh!

So all in all, we signed up and paid for a membership, browsed for 20 minutes, left our cart, and returned to customer service to get a full refund on said membership. We both left Costco absolutely fuming and spewing obscenities about the store. NEVER. AGAIN!

But because we’re both pretty darn optimistic and happy people, all it took to cheer us up was some iced coffees from Dunkin’ Donuts! Problem solved.

Moral of the story: it’s time to join the Park Slope Food Coop.

Bedtime! Big workout planned for the morning, and I need to finish Hunger Games book 2. Yes, I finally jumped on the bandwagon. I should have listened to everybody sooner! It’s so freaking good.

Night all…and because I love all of you dearly, here’s a picture of a cute-as-a-button caterpillar. Look at him climb!
