FitblogNYC Recap + Apartment Keys!
Yesterday, I was lucky enough enough to attend an AWESOME event put on by Fitness Magazine + Fitfluential called Fitness Magazine Meet & Tweet (aka #fitblogNYC)! ~100 people passionate about health/fitness gathered to mingle in a gorgeous event space, listen to super knowledgeable industry professionals, eat some yummy food, and walk away with some incredible swag.
After blogging for a year and becoming involved in the incredible healthy living blog/Twitter community, it was such a treat to be able to match some faces with names! I went into the event not really knowing a single person, but met so many amazing girls, a lot of whom live right here in NYC!
Let’s back up.
Since the event started at 9AM, I set my alarm for 6:30. However, my bod did NOT want to sleep and instead woke me up at 5:45. Instead of working out (since I was wiped from 10 miles the night before), I decided to use my extra time to cook up an unusually-decadent-for-a-weekday-morning kinda breakfast.
Pseudo-open-faced breakfast sandwich: 1/2 kaiser roll, topped with spinach, an over easy egg, 1/2 sliced avocado, sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Perfection!
Since I didn’t know anyone going into the event, I floated a question out to the Twittersphere seeing if anyone wanted to grab coffee before the event. Megan and Kara both said they wanted to join, so we all braved the insane rain/humidity and met up at Cafe Grumpy, grabbed some much-needed coffee, and headed on over!
We signed in and started making our rounds to the various sponsor booths. It was a nice system set up where you had a little card with squares for all of the sponsors, and you had to get a star for each booth that you visited in order to claim your gift bag at the end.
While I didn’t get a chance to meet everyone that I wanted to, the girls that I DID get to meet were nothing short of fantastic! Ashley, Renee, Theodora, Leticia, Katie, Christine, Kristine , Megan, and Kara…it was so great meeting and hanging out with you ladies!
After a fun-filled day, I was ready to head home…albeit like a crazy bag lady! Gift bag, my bag, yoga mat, AND I managed to stop by Dunkin’ Donuts for an iced coffee. That’s devotion right there!
Ellie was nice enough to assist with unpacking…
AND with arranging the items!
Here we go: just some of the goodies in the swag bag! Reebok sneakers, Birkenstock sandals, Oakley running sunglasses, yoga mat + DVD, no-slip headbands, Fiber One bars, razor, beauty products, gym bag, Camelbak water bottles, book, energy bars/water/strips…etc!
I was floored by all of it! Can’t wait to wear my new shades during the half marathon next weekend.
After unpacking the bag and lounging around for a little while, I headed down to the gym for a 30 minute strength training session. I need to find something more structured than my current go-to routine, so if you have any weight-lifting programs that you love, please let me know!
The rest of the day/night was filled with packing for the move, which the kitties obviously helped with!
We’re in pretty good shape for the move this weekend. Well, partial move.
Kman’s parents have very generously offered to help more some smaller items over on Saturday morning (the kitties being two of these items!), and then the movers will bring the heavy stuff on Tuesday morning. Kman and I will be going the air mattress route for a few days so the cats can get settled in.
In apartment-related news, I picked up the keys this morning and took a walk by! As much as I wanted to peek in, we’re going to check out the new kitchen tonight after work and I wanted both of us to see it at the same time.
Yay pretty tree lined street! And hell-OoOooO Prospect Park in the background! I have a big date planned for us Sunday morning.
And just for kicks, check out this incredibly inspirational video that has been making the rounds. Lee emailed the link to me the other day and I loved it. Dang, I need to get back into yoga ASAP!
Question: How do you handle events where you won’t know anybody? Also, do you have any good weight lifting programs for me?! I need to mix things up!

So nice to meet you! : )
This sounds like SO MUCH FUN! I wish I had started blogging sooner/live closer to NYC!
It was great meeting so many NYC ladies! Such a fun event.
I never noticed the cafe grumpy sign, it’s so cute, haha! glad we were able to hang out! Hope you love the new place…oh and tell me again, are you running Brooklyn next weekend?! (cause I am!)
I think I may have already mentioned this, but I like Jillian Michaels’ Making the Cut. The workouts change a lot, so you don’t get bored. But if you’re looking for a heavier lifting routine, The Female Body Breakthrough is a good one. I’m crazy, so I put all the workouts in a spreadsheet so I wouldn’t have to take the book to the gym. Email me if you want!
Yessss, I AM running brooklyn next weekend! It was great hanging out with ya. We’ll have to try to meet up before or after the race!
oooo I’ve heard Female Body Breakthrough is good! I think Laura did that program and LOVED it!
My favorite strength training is actually yoga. I’m currently working my way through Adrienne Reed’s Power Yoga series and it’s doing amazing things to my body.
I’m also a huge fan of Tony Horton (I know…). My husband loves P90X, but I love his 10 Minute Trainer and P90 series. Much more realistic time-wise (about 30 minutes/day), but they’re still awesome for strength training. You can use free weights, but bands are recommended.
However, both of these are at-home workouts, although you certainly could learn the sequences and do them without the DVDs.
Amy! It was soooo nice to meet you! That new apartment looks amazing, good luck with the move.
I seriously need to get back to yoga! I miss it so much. Once we move and get settled, I’m joining a gym that has classes. Thanks for the recs! I’ll check them out
