Choco-Cherry Smoothie and I’m Kind of an Adult I guess
Aside from paying dumb bills, nothing makes me feel more like an adult than making my own doctor/dentist/etc appointments. As an extremely healthy person (read: no medications, no surgeries, no hospital stays, no diseases, and things of the sort…knock on wood!), I always just wait to go to the doctor until I absolutely have to.
Well, I realized that I hadn’t had a physical in quite some time and neither had Kman. He went to the doc last week to get a running injury checked out, and bribed me to make an appointment for this week. How did he bribe me? With a Kindle!
We found a great family practice down the street from our apartment, and I went in this morning for a general check-up. I also got a prescription for about a bajillion blood tests just to be on the safe side. I’ve never had any of these done, and as I approach my quarter of a century birthday, it seemed like high time that I cross this off my to-do list.
I couldn’t get all the tests this morning because you’re supposed to fast and I chowed down on a cherry-chocolate smoothie for breakfast. Oops!
After my trials and tribulations with frozen cherries last night, they were put to good use this morning!
Choco-Cherry Smoothie:
makes 2
- 2 giant handfuls spinach
- 1 1/2 c almond milk
- 2 scoops chocolate protein powder
- 1 c frozen cherries
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp xanthan gum to thicken
- optional: 2 tbsp ground flax seed, 2 tbsp chia seeds
Perfection!
Does anyone have any idea what any of these blood test acronyms mean?!
- CBC
- CMP
- BH + TFT
- FLP
- VA
- Vitamin D
- Thyroid AB profile
Sounds like Greek to me, but I suppose it’ll be good to get everything checked out and make sure I’m A-OK! I tend to take the “ostrich approach” (stick my head in the sand and ignore things until it’s a problem) when it comes to health stuff, which is pretty terrible I know. So yay for being proactive!
After work, Kman and I are trekking to Midtown West to pick up the steal of the century that I scored on Craigslist! We need a rug for our new apartment, and I found this 8′ x 10′ West Elm rug in great condition (regularly sold for $700-$800 in stores)….
FOR $40!!! Granted, now we’re stuck transporting the stupid thing home to JC via ferry, so that should be a pretty interesting adventure.
But you know the saying…what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger

If you want i can ask my mom about the blood tests, she’d know for sure!
That is an awesome deal! And the smoothie also sounds really delicious… I need to pick up some cherries from a street vendor.
that would be awesome! i know some of them are like cholesterol, blood sugar and all that good stuff. but the other stuff i have no idea about!
LOVE the rug. so original. great steal
[...] I discovered the wonders of a cherry pitter! After “bloody hands” from my cherry-pitting trials and tribulations, my mom gave her old, awesome, never once used, cherry pitter. I went to town on a pound of cherries to pit and freeze for future Choco-Cherry Smoothies. [...]
Something different than a classic strawberry-and-banana smoothie! It sounds amazing. I absolutely love cherries… and chocolate! I’ve never tried the combination of the two, and I can’t wait to try it. I have absolutely no idea what those blood test names mean.
