A New Chapter
Yesterday was the official big day. The one we had been waiting to come for months. WE ELOPED!
Just kidding.
MOVING DAY!!
We’ve finally closed the Jersey City chapter of our book and we’re onwards and upwards to Brooklyn.
The movers were set to arrive at 8AM, so we fueled up with Dunkin’ Donuts coffee (and grabbed some more boxes from the dumpster, obviously) and headed to Jersey City for some last minute packing.
Bye bye furniture! This was the first time I had used movers and I was so thrilled with them. They were speedy, professional, and just downright amazing.
The movers couldn’t take the plants, so after everything was packed up, Kman and I headed over to Brooklyn with them. There was one casualty along the way….
The tree that Kman is holding? Yeah, it only made it through the first 1/10th of our journey. It was too big and bulky to carry on the subway, so I told him to sneakily ditch it in some shrubbery outside our building. Shhhhh, camouflage!
The movers hit some traffic in the Holland Tunnel, so we beat them over to the new place. When they arrive they started the unloading process. By then, it had started to absolutely pour outside, and I felt so bad for the poor guys! Also, third floor walk up? That makes for slow going for a move.
I ran down the street (literally, ran. I packed our umbrellas!) to get cash for a tip for them, and also some bottled water and bagels with cream cheese for them to have for lunch.
Our giant leather sectional proved to be pretty problematic with a small staircase and a small doorway. For a while, I wasn’t sure they’d be able to make it fit through! It divides up into 3 sections, but one section had to be manually disassembled to make it all fit. YIKES! Stressed begins to cover how I was feeling…
Thankfully, the couch eventually fit and everyone lived happily ever after! That is, until I realized that our green arm chair is a tad too big for the apartment. I’m going to wait until we’re completely unpacked and then we’ll play Tetris with the furniture to see what looks good where. I have a detailed outline of Feng Shui guidelines from Katy which I will be taking into consideration!
Does anyone else do this when unpacking? I dump EVERY item of clothing out, then sort it all, then methodically put it away. It might look like a disaster zone now, but after an hour and a half it was all better!
Bonus question: Can you spot Penny napping somewhere in this picture?!
(Answer: bottom right corner)
Tah-dah! Eek, Katy, I know a window above the bed is bad feng shui, but I promise I’ll do something to counteract the fact that our chi might be leaking out the window while we sleep!
Ellie decided to help me unpack. And by unpack, I mean leap into a gigantic box that she had no way of escaping and meow incessantly until I realized where the sound was coming from.
The movers finished at 2pm, and Kman got home at 7pm bearing 2 bottles of wine! Apparently he read my earlier tweets and realized that it probably wasn’t going to be a pretty sight to come home to. Don’t worry, Dad, we didn’t drink both of them…or did we?!
We each had a glass, unpacked for another 2 hours, and then realized we should probably get dinner. So off we went! Instead of consulting Yelp, we opted to wander down 8th ave and see what we stumbled upon. We wound up at Two Boots because I was immediately drawn to the sign. So glad we went! It was fantastic.
We each got a beer to celebrate being out of Jersey City finally!
Kman got fried chicken and I got blackened salmon with garlic broccoli and sweet potato fries for sides.
Now for another night of unpacking after work! We need to get most, if not all, of it done tonight because after the Brooklyn Half on Saturday we’ll be having the Bauer fam over for a bit!
And since things are finally back to normal, I WILL go for a run in Prospect Park tomorrow morning! I’ve been so sleep-deprived this week that the idea of venturing out for a run sounds miserable. A nice little 4 mile tune up run is in store tomorrow AM, and then resting my legs up for 13.1 on Saturday!
Question: Does moving turn you into a stressball monster like it does with me?! I told Kman that we’re not moving for another 5 years because I can’t take it haha. AND, are you running Brooklyn on Saturday?! Let’s hang!

When I moved in with the bf in September, I was a basketcase. BASKETCASE. He is the world’s biggest procrastinator. Let’s just say the unpacking adventure was a true test of our relationship. Haha. Yay for the new place!
So happy to hear your couch fit in the doors! That can be SUPER stressful!! Happy moving!!
Moving in and out of my apartment at college was always stressful because I lived far away and there were always things we ran out of room for! and then finding a place to put everything..UGH! But glad you are all moved!!
